TIN Verification in BIR

Before you read my personal ramblings, here’s how to do it.

1. Go to BIR Portal and click on eTIN.  The link is on the left sidebar, you may need to scroll down a few pages. The direct link is https://ereg.bir.gov.ph/ereg/welcome.do.

2. On the taxpayer group, choose the second option which is PROFESSIONAL (Self-employed) and click on submit. Don’t bother other options, this is all you need even if this doesn’t apply to you.

3.  Key-in the required info : LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME, MIDDLE NAME and BIRTHDAY. Make sure you do it right.

4.  Your TIN will be displayed in the screen if a match is found.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue’s website is one of the first working websites I saw from a government agency. I remember when I was still in the university(less than a decade) seeing advertisements of their portal. And I never knew I would one day need to use their service particularly in verifying my Tax Identification Number(TIN).

You see, I never had the chance to get my TIN Card from my first employer. I was just told that my TIN is on the back of my company ID. But that’s just it. I don’t know if that was correct and never had the inkling of verifying it until when I was told that they can’t verify my TIN in BIR at the Makati City hall. That was needed to pay my real property tax. They just made a temporary TIN for me(don’t really know how they did it) but that made me think if my TIN is true or not. If my former employer did not pay for my SSS, it is highly possible that my TIN is also bogus.

So that’s the reason why I needed to verify my TIN. Luckily, the TIN is correct.
